Despite me enjoying the fact that the second book was written from Tella's point of view, I was actually glad that the final book was written from both girl's perspectives. Just like Tella, I still wanted to believe that Legend would be the hero in her story and I was still rooting for Julian and Scarlett too.
So much happened in the first few chapters of the book that I read non-stop for a few hours. I genuinely didn't think Paloma was really dead - we barely got introduced to her before she was killed and I was convinced that she would come back to life somehow. When Tella went back to Jacks due to her grief, I knew she would come to regret her bargain with him AGAIN, and it almost ended up ruining her and Legend's happily ever after. After it was revealed that falling in love was a Fate's weakness, I flip-flopped between wanting Legend to fall in love with Tella and wanting him to keep his immortality in order to keep her safe and it made for some serious heartache.
I wasn't too surprised by the fact that Scarlett ended up being able to actually see people's emotions and feelings as colours, given the imagery used in the first book, but I was blindsided by the fact that she ended up being the Fallen Star's daughter - when she was snatched at the dock, I definitely thought the Count had done another deal with Governor Dragna. I did end up a little sad when the Fallen Star died and I actually felt sorry for Jacks in the end because everyone seemed to get their happy ending apart from him.
I think I've seen that Garber's other book 'Once Upon a Broken Heart' is about Jacks, so I'm looking forward to reading that too (I've already got a copy), but I really adored the Caraval trilogy and although kissing spiders sound horrendous, I'd love to spend a day in Valenda - almost as much as I'd love to have my very own Reverie Key.
