My other half picked this book up for me as a treat and although it wasn't anything spectacular, it wasn't a bad read either. I know the author has multiple positive reviews for this and other books, so maybe I need to give a different read a chance.
As far as psychological thrillers go, the premise was pretty good and although I knew Nathan wasn't to be trusted straight away, I didn't see it coming that the mother was still alive and drugging her daughter.
For one reason or another, I really struggled with the writing style of this book and found it to be fairly slow. I wasn't a big fan of Olivia/Arden as a character - she seemed to misread so many interactions with people and I get that this was to show she'd had very little close socialisation with others, always holding them at a distance to avoid anyone finding out her true identity, but she came across a little naïve for me.
Elyse's death felt a little unnecessary and was barely explained in my opinion - I thought there could have been more to her storyline and Rick's - I was also waiting for something sinister to happen when Olivia went to visit Emma Lyons, however I did like the way the story tied together in the end.
Overall I wasn't completely enamoured, but I still wouldn't categorise this as a bad book despite it not being quite up my street.
